The Société des Africanistes was founded in 1930. Its purpose is the scientific study of Africa and
its people from the most remote times to our days. Its main activities
consist in the publishing of a pluri-disciplinarian scientific journal,
the Journal des Africanistes, and the organization of monthly lectures.
The Journal des Africanistes (formerly Journal de la Société des Africanistes) has been published regularly since 1931.
It comprises articles, thematic documents, book reviews and a variety of scientific and bibliographic information.
The Société also publishes Mémoires, concerned primarily with books which are out of print and unpublished manuscripts.
The monthly lectures of the Société offer a space where the members of the scientific community may expose
their current research. The lectures may also center on contemporary or
historical events concerning the African continent. Following the
lecture a space for discussion gives the specialists from different
fields of research the opportunity of exchanging points of view.
The Société des Africanistes is regularly consulted by institutions, scientific researchers and individuals seeking information.
The Société thus fulfills its aim of favouring the study and knowledge of Africa. |
